South Atlanta (Ga.) High School forward Derrick Favors (photo) is ranked as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2009 by Van Coleman in the new CSTV.com rankings.
Favors had a sensational showing at the adidas Super 64 for the winning Atlanta Celtics team.
Lakewood (Calif.) forward Renardo Sidney, who is No. 1 in many of the analysts rankings, is ranked at No. 2 by Coleman. Brooklyn guard Lance Stephenson, who is a University of Lousiville target, is No. 3 on the list.
Oklahoma guard Xavier Henry, another U of L target, checks in at No. 4 before Pinson (Ala.) forward Demarcus Cousins is No. 5. Florida guard Kenny Boynton, another U of L target, is No. 6. Cousins has both U of L and UK on his list.
Indianapolis Lawrence North forward Stephan Van Treese is No. 44 on the listing, while Tipton (Ind.) forward Derek Elston is No. 76. Texas guard and UK commitment G.J. Vilarino is ranked in this top 100 at No. 77. New York guard and U of L commitment Lamont Jones is No. 90. The long Kentucky player listed is Madisonville’s Jon Hood at No. 96.
Coleman’s rankings are one of the only ones I have seen for the ’09 class that give Vilarino and Jones some credit for their games. Both had up-and-down summers.
